Can China get it together with 3G in time for the Olympics? China Mobile Communications, parent company to the country’s largest mobile network China Mobile, will begin testing China’s homegrown 3G wireless standard from April 1, reports Dow Jones (NYSE: NWS) (via Cellular News). The network is issuing 20,000 mobile phones to selected customers so they can test the TD-SCDMA standard during the three-month trial, while another 40,000 phones will be sold in stores. Eight cities have been chosen for the trial including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Xiamen and Qinhuangdao. A spokesperson for the company said at this point it was still unknown if the 3G standard will be available in time for the games in August.
