Palm (NSDQ: PALM) unveiled its highly anticipated new mobile operating system today at CES, which is expected to either make or break the company over the next few months. Already, reactions are strong, and the stock jumped $1.15 cents, or 35 percent on Thursday, to close at $4.45 a share. In the evening, Palm hosted a VIP event to give live demonstrations of the phone. Employees showed how easy it is to check e-mail or read messages in HTML, and how easy it is to contact your friends, whether it’s over e-mail, text message, IM. Palm was the one that invented threaded text messages, but now they are taking it to a new level with threaded conversations across platforms, text or IM. But what I may have been most impressed with is how easy it is to find things, on the phone and on the Web. From the homescreen, you can simply start typing, and based on the very first letters, contacts, phone functionality and Web results start popping up.
