imageEntertainment gossip site TMZ is expanding into the mobile space with an ad-supported, cross-carrier, standalone WAP site (screenshot shown in thumbnail, right), which will offer a heavy concentration of video and breaking news, according to a rep for Warner Bros. Television Group. TMZ is jointly owned by WBTVG and Time Warner sibling AOL (NYSE: TWX). Ad inventory will be sold and served in a 50-50 split by AOL ad network Platform-A’s Third Screen Media, and Quattro Wireless, which is in charge of building and powering the mobile site.

Sony (NYSE: SNE) Pictures Home Entertainment is serving as launch sponsor to promote the April DVD and Blu-ray High Def release of the comedy Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. TMZ will also be launching an on-deck mobile site with AT&T (NYSE: T) in Q2. Users can access the TMZ’s mobile website by typing TMZ.com into a mobile phone or by texting TMZ to (52662) to get the link sent to their phone.
