Bank Of America Says It Has 1 Million mobile Users; Details Other Mobile-Banking Trends

Bank of America said in the last year since it launched its mobile-banking services, it has been able to tally up one million unique active mobile banking customers, who access http://www.bofa.mobi/ from their phone’s browser to check balances, pay bills, transfer funds, view transaction and locate banks and ATMs. Of course, that’s peanuts when compared with BofA’s 25 million online bankers. However, the industry is expected to grow with a recent report estimating that 884 million users will conduct 62 billion mobile banking transactions in 2012. Release.

Here’s some characteristics about BofA’s mobile users:

—There’s more than 100,000 users on peak days.
—Mobile banking skews higher in cities, the most popular are: Los Angeles, Atlanta, Washington DC, Dallas, New York, Houston, Phoenix, Boston, Miami and Anaheim, Calif.
—There was more than 4 million mobile sessions in May 2008, a year after the service was launched.
—Almost all customers use the service to view balances, eight in ten review transactions, while 40 percent transfer funds or pay bills.
—Two-thirds of users are under the age of 35 and four out of five are under 45 years old.
—The most popular devices are Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) iPhone, Blackberry’s and Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) Windows Mobile phones.
