Updated: AT&T Drops Price Of FLO TV; Doesn’t Add Three New Channels

AT&T (NYSE: T) is dropping the price of Qualcomm’s FLO TV service from $15 a month to $9.99 a month starting Nov. 8. The price drop is likely in an effort to drive more subscribers to the service, however, there’s still one major hurdle in getting there—AT&T is currently only selling two TV-capable phones—the Samsung Eternity and the LG (SEO: 066570) Vu. Update: AT&T tells me that there’s actually five devices for sale (even though their website is out of date and only lists two). The others are: Samsung Mythic, Samsung Access and LG Invision. None of the handsets are smartphones, which is likely an big hindrance these days, considering the current uptake of higher-end devices.

An AT&T spokesman also said that they did not announce three new TV stations, as reported by Engadget. Previously, we reported that the channels were only being vaguely described, so perhaps something is in the works for down the road.

Between Sept. 25 and Dec. 11, AT&T will adding the service in 10 new markets, where Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM) has recently rolled out service. Because of the limited adoption of the service by AT&T and Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ) subscribers, FLO TV recently announced it was launching its own TV device (that is not a phone). The device will cost $250 and FLO will charge $9.99 for a monthly subscription.
