ATSC Mobile TV Standard Announced In US

The US Advanced Television Systems Committee has announced a new mobile TV standard that will let broadcasters “deliver television content and data to mobile and handheld devices via their DTV broadcast signal”. The standard, ATSC-M/H, will be developed to offer free ad-supported TV, interactive services, subscription-based TV and non-real time content download for playback at a later time (release). The world doesn’t really need another mobile TV standard, so I hope this is another name for a previous mobile TV standard—or is at least compatible with them. It’s targetted at broadcasters so seems to compete with the MPH and A-VSB and Alcatel’s S-Band service.
