Apple ‘Indifferent’ To Launching iPhone In South Korea
Will Apple’s iPhone make its way to South Korea now that a local regulation that made it difficult for foreign handset makers to enter the market was lifted earlier this month? According to local press, it looks like the Korean love affair for the iPhone, is “one-sided”. While South Koreans are said to be very intrigued by the gadget and South Korean carrier KTF has been trying to bring the device to the local market since its launch nearly two years ago, Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) apparently, is “indifferent” to rolling it out in the country.

KTF VP of Handset Strategy Won-Do Lee told Telecoms Korea, “We are holding talks with Apple, however, up to now there is no progress yet.” Aside from Apple’s reluctance, Lee said there were two other challenges standing in the way of bringing the device to South Korea: that the current iPhone is an older model compared to other products on the market; that the iPhone is expensive thanks to Korea’s won falling against the US dollar.
