AdMob: Apple’s App Market Worth Nearly $200 Million Each Month

Mobile ad net AdMob estimates that the Apple’s App Store paid market is nearly $200 million per month, while the market for Google’s Android is only $5 million per month. That either demonstrates the potential growth for Android’s paid-app market or just how weak the Google (NSDQ: GOOG) device’s position is starting from. The estimate was based on an online survey AdMob commissioned, which found that 50 percent of iPhone users said they buy at least one app each month, along with 40 percent of iPod touch owners, compared with just 19 percent of those who bought an app using Android. Release

When it comes to downloading the most apps, free and paid, Apple’s iPod touch are nearly twice as active the owners of the iPhone and Google’s Android. AdMob surveyed 1,117 users (breaking it out by device, 390 Android, 380 iPhone and 347 iPod touch users participated in the online questionnaire). Of course, the estimated market size for Android paid applications is significantly smaller than iPhone paid apps, given both the smaller number of Android devices and lower adoption of paid apps among those users.
