Aardman Animations is the latest content house to move into the ad-supported mobile video space. The UK-based company—best known for Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run—will provide short video clips to run on mobile operator 3’s mobile video network, which is ad-funded and free to subscribers of its X-Series mobile data packages. Creature Comforts, A Town Called Panic, Purple and Brown and Morph are slated for the initial lineup, according to AWN. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Aardman’s track record in mobile video has been good so far: clips of its Angry Kid series, offered across various mobile networks, were selling at the rate of 10,000 downloads a day at their peak, says the article. It also points out that since launching earlier this year, 3 has picked up 600,000 users for its ad-supported video service, which is operated by Rhythm New Media.
