500 Million Mobile TV Viewers In 2013: Report

There will be half a billion viewers of mobile TV by 2013, largely driven by the switchover to all-digital broadcasting in the US and other countries predicts ABI Research...I’m pretty sure that includes broadcast and streamed TV services. Senior analyst Jeff Orr said that people don’t value mobile TV because it’s at the end of a list of more preferred mobile services, however ” mobile TV will soon be positioned in a more proper role as an extension of traditional broadcast TV services”. The argument is that people don’t want mobile TV, but do want to see TV on the move and if that is on a mobile phone—so be it. This appears promising for the OMVC model which sees broadcasters tack on a mobile stream to their digital broadcast, offering it free (and at little extra cost to themselves). Mobile TV will therefore also be on MIDs, in cars, and so on.
