4info To Acquire Mobile Advertising Startup Butter
4info, the text message search and alerts firm, has agreed to acquire mobile advertising start-up Butter, reports Venturebeat.com. The terms of the deal, which is slated to close by the end of July, were not disclosed, though 4info plans to keep the entire Butter team employed.
4info CEO Zaw Thet said that Butter’s application ad products and tracking technology combined with 4info’s SMS and display advertising expertise creates a “fully holistic approach to mobile advertising.”
New York City-based Butter builds customized iPhone and Android apps for brands and has worked with companies including Coca-Cola and Energizer. It also acts as a go-between for brands and “leading apps,” finding the best apps for brands to sponsor entirely, or to allow brands to “gift” consumers content within the app.
So far, 4info has raised over $50 million in venture capital. Its backers include US Venture Partners, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, NBC Universal (NYSE: GE), Mezzanine Capital Partners, and Gannett (NYSE: GCI) Company.
