3UK has signed up with Intercasting to offer the latters ANTHEM social networking gateway, which offers access to a number of online social communities. 3UK subscribers will be able to access sites such as LiveJournal, Xanga, Vox and BlackPlanet and share media and participate in groups and forums. 3UK has 3.75 million users, and is Intercasting’s first official deal (although more have been reported with telcos like Sprint and Virgin). It doesn’t really pay telcos to restrict their users’ access to a particular social networking site, they’ll get more people using the data network if they offer a wide range of choices.
