M:Metrics has released a report showing that 3G subscribers are twice more likely to consume mobile content such as games, news and information, photo messaging and search. Italy leads 3G penetration with 26.4 percent of subscribers using 3G, followed by the UK with 15.2 percent of British mobile subscribers owning a 3G handset, Spain with 13.8 percent penetration, Germany at 10.4 percent, France at 9.8 percent and the United States at 9.6 percent. In all these countries 18-24 year old males have the highest incidence of 3G usage. The press release has a lot of the stats in detail. The hope is that the data use is higher amongst 3G users because of the better experience, rather than that the people most likely to use data services migrate to 3G first. (release)
